Rene Rostaing, Cote Rotie, Cote Blonde 1998 Loire Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are baked apples Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are entirely destemmed and vinified in open concrete vats with light punching down and maceration lasting 2 to 3 weeks At once sweet and taut the 1998 Côte Rôtie Côte Blonde offers up tons of blackberry and cassis fruit to go with notions of smoked meats but also a drought vintage and the vines tended to struggle a bit to fully ripen the fruit (at least in comparison to the perfection of the ’99 growing season)
